The Paris 2024 Games : a far lower carbon footprint than previous editions

col-sm-6

A year ago, the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games opened before the eyes of the entire world. It was an opportunity to reflect on their environmental impact : with 2.085 million tonnes of CO2 emitted, the carbon footprint of the Paris Games was significantly lower than that of previous editions.

This result places Paris 2024 among the lowest greenhouse gas emitting Games of the last decade. Performing better than London 2012 (3.3 million tonnes) or Rio 2016 (4.5 million tonnes), its carbon footprint is comparable to that of the Tokyo 2020 Games (2 million tonnes), which were held without international spectators due to COVID-19.
